National Mental Health First Aid
The National Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) builds the capacity of professionals within communities to serve as a first line of support for persons struggling with mental health challenges. MHFA aims to reduce the exacerbation of mental health challenges, offer support and link persons to professional care providers (e.g., counselors, social workers, or physicians).
A variant of MHFA, the National Mental Health First Aid sessions to Adults who work with Youth (MHFA-Y), teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in youth populations.
